Overcoming Early Challenges and Achieving Scientific Success
Launched in 2010, Akatsuki faced a important setback during its initial Venus orbit insertion attempt in December of that year. A problem with the main engine prevented it from reaching its planned orbit.However, JAXA engineers ingeniously repurposed the spacecraft, successfully entering a highly elliptical orbit in December 2015. This remarkable recovery demonstrated remarkable engineering skill and adaptability.
Since achieving stable orbit, Akatsuki has delivered a wealth of data, considerably advancing our understanding of Venusian atmospheric dynamics. The orbiter's instruments,including infrared cameras and radar,have revealed details about the planet's super-rotating atmosphere,cloud formations,and surface features.
